Fear, Freedom & Music Magic: Choosing Which Battles To Fight

Some fears aren’t barriers — they’re boundaries. Honour them. Learn from them. This is your invitation to reclaim courage without force.

“Everything you want is on the other side of fear.”

Perhaps. But let’s be honest, not every fear is worth conquering. Some fears are loud and dramatic. They stand between you and the life you want. Others are quieter — and wiser. They whisper: “This isn’t your mountain to climb.”

There’s a big difference between fear that limits your life, and fear that just doesn’t deserve your energy.

Take me. I’ve paraglided. Not because I wanted to but because I felt like I had to impress the audience. Same with drinking five tequilas. Both times, I did something bold on the outside that didn’t feel aligned with my narrative on the inside. And the beauty of it is that I never have to do either again.

That’s what changes everything. I don’t need to prove anything anymore. I get to choose the battles I want to fight. And fear doesn’t get to tell me what I can or can’t do with my life.

Because, yes, there are fears we can live around. But then there are those quiet, sneaky ones that rob us of the spark of life. Like the fear of being seen in a swimsuit. Or the fear of speaking up. Those fears need challenging. Gently, but deliberately.

Here’s what works for me:

1. Gradual Exposure

Start small. Breathe through the thought of it. Visualise the moment. Then take one doable step. Safety and courage aren’t opposites. They hold hands.

2. Anchoring Confidence with Music Magic

I start with a memory — when I felt solid, alive, fully myself. I step into that feeling: body posture, breath, energy.

Then I add the song. Not background music. The track that brings it all back. That’s where the magic kicks in. Music doesn’t just anchor the feeling. It amplifies it. It becomes your emotional soundtrack for courage.

3. The Swish Pattern

Notice the fear-image playing in your mind. Then quickly swap it with a vivid mental picture of you handling it beautifully. Repeat that mental shift. It retrains the brain to expect calm instead of panic.

You don’t have to fight every fear. But you do get to protect your freedom. And if music helps you do that — why the hell NOT?
